Eh, sorry for all the comments, it's working now. (had typed the wrong password). Would be nice to have a guage like in the firefox extension you mentioned, where you know where you "should be" at the current point in the month. Thanks for the script.
No probs skip,
Yeah, a little bit of maths and you should get a guage like that. For me.. it wasn't a big requirement. Feel free to hack to your pleasure.
Thanks for sharing your usage meter script Matt, it works a treat!
I've just started mucking around with conky a few days ago, along with a distro called crunchbang. cheers
Hi Matt, I have luckily just stumbled across this post as it is exactly what I'm after. Unfortunately, when I got to the bit where you refer to the ~/.conkyrc file code snippet, my browser doesn't show anything (Chromium & Firefox - under Ubuntu 9.04). Therefore just wondering if you are able to reply with the snippet or re-add it to the post? (not sure how that works). I'd be very appreciative.
cheers
Sorry about that Rob,
It appears the geshi library I used to colour code the code snippets has broken. I've now removed the colour coding, and it's at least visible.
Fantastic, thanks Matt for your quick reply & fix. Now, over to me (ie Conky newcomer).
cheers
Worked beautifully!!! thanks again Matt.
Cheers mate. I've managed to write something similar that works with TPG. Took me a while to write the regex to extract the right info though.
Thanks again.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for the script, unfortunately it not work for me as my account not exist at the url your using to retrieve data from, as I am on NodeMobile. So I have rewritten parts of your script to support NodeMobile. A copy can be found here: http://quail.southernvaleslug.org/webblog/archives/210
Hi Quail,
Thanks for the update. Hopefully others can also find your work useful.
Hi Matt,
Hope you don't mind but can you provide a walk through for setting this script up, what should I call the .sh file and how do I direct conky to read it (I'm still gwtting use to working with conky). My ISP is Internode and I'm not having much luck getting it to work.
Hi Ken.
Firstly ensure you have conky installed. There is two aspects to it... 1. The bash script. You can name this what you like. I call mine node-usage.sh It's placed in my ~/bin/ directory. 2. The .conkyrc file. This is where you use the conky formatting to display. You then open a terminal and just run the shell script. In addition, you want it to run regularly. My crontab has this entry: # Check Internode Usage * */2 * * * /home/matt/bin/node-usage.sh > /dev/null 2>&1 That will ensure it runs every two hours. The script just generates the files in the /tmp directory. I then have a script I use in my Gnome startup that fires up conky: /home/matt/bin/start-conky.sh (Under System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications. It reads as such: #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/conky -d -c /home/matt/.conkyrc I hope that helps.
Hi Matt
Thanks for the walk through, will definitely give it a go over the next day or two when I have the time, thanks again |
